On Myself, Raidou Kuzunoha XIV

(I know it may seem strange, but I'm not particularly fond of talking about my Raidou-ness in the first person except under certain circumstances for reasons which you aren't entitled to know. Just deal with it.)

General

Raidou Kuzunoha XIV is a Devil Summoner and apprentice detective stationed as the Protector of Japan's Imperial Capital in the year Taishō 20, or 1931. While the circumstances of his birth are unclear, he appears to be around nineteen years old. He also nominally attends Yumizuki* no Kimi Higher Normal School, though he's often too busy with work to go to class. Currently, his place of residence is the Narumi Detective Agency in the Tsukudo-chō neighborhood of Tokyo, where he lives with agency head Narumi and Gouto-Douji. As a Devil Summoner, Raidou serves the Kuzunoha Clan, who themselves are overseen by the supranational organization known as the Yatagarasu.

*The pronunciation of 弓月 varies across multiple entries in the Devil Summoner: Raidou Kuzunoha series. I personally prefer "Yumitsuki" from the light novel, but I've decided to stick with the official English localization of "Yumizuki" on this site for the sake of consistency and familiarity for a general audience.

Childhood

Raidou was abandoned by his birth parents when he was around three or four years old. Even before it was evident that he possessed supernatural abilities, rumors were spread about his "unusual" behaviors — he never spoke, nor showed any interest in playing with other children, and more generally had a cold and distant demeanor that was off-putting for such a young child. Various theories were proposed: perhaps Raidou was a changeling, or he had been possessed by a fox, or, more sinisterly, perhaps his parents were anti-Yatagarasu interlopers, and their child was some sort of demon-spawn who was created to wreak havoc on Kuzunoha Village. This caused a great deal of distress for Raidou's parents, and they cracked under the pressure before long. At this time, the Yatagarasu stepped in and offered to take Raidou into their care. Desperate and terrified that harm might befall their family otherwise, his parents agreed, and fled the village shortly afterwards.
